Clam Chowder: New England-style clam chowder

Clam chowder is a thick clam and potato chowder native to New England, consistent and very appetizing in cold weather. There are numerous varieties and some are even made with oysters (usually canned). If you don't want to add bacon for whatever reason, substitute croutons of fried bread.
