Kürtöskalács, a crunchy Hungarian sweet

El horn cake It is a typical Hungarian cake that is characteristic because it is cooked on a cylinder attached to a skewer that is placed over an open fire. It consists of a thin ribbon of yeast dough, lightly seasoned with cinnamon and well dusted with sugar.

Sometimes it is coated with chocolate powder, walnuts, or almonds. To toast it, it is wrapped around a wooden cylinder, making it shaped like a conch. Thus, the sugar caramelizes on the surface of the kürtöskalács, forming a sweet and crunchy crust.

As at home we will not have this special oven with rotating rollers with which these sweets are made, we can roll the dough in a metal cylinder or in an oven-resistant glass.
