The feast of Thanksgiving or Thanksgiving for Americans which is celebrated on the 4th Thursday of November (this year is the 25th of November). It is an endearing party in which the whole family tends to get together in a similar way to how we do it for Christmas Eve. In your dinner you can not miss the turkey, in addition to other traditional recipes. Among the most common desserts are sweet potato pie or "Sweet potato pie", although many also opt for the pumpkin pie or apple.

If you are going to celebrate Thanksgiving, with this Sweet potato pie recipe you can taste this typical North American dessert

Ingredients

  • 600g sweet potatoes
  • 115 g of creamy butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 220 g brown sugar
  • a pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon tip of ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
  • 120 ml of evaporated milk
  • 50 g white sugar
  • 1 sheet of shortcrust pastry.

Preparation

  1. We preheat the oven to 200º C.

  2. Line a round mold with the shortcrust pastry and shape well so that there are no gaps.

  3. We place some chickpeas on top or another weight so that the dough does not rise and bake for 15 minutes. We reserve the dough base.

  4. On the other hand, we boil the sweet potatoes for about 20 minutes or until they soften (we can also choose to bake them). Peel them and mash them (we need about 500 g of puree).

  5. In a large bowl, combine the sweet potato puree, egg yolks, softened butter (soft), brown sugar, salt, spices, and evaporated milk. We mix everything well with the help of the blender until we obtain a homogeneous cream.

  6. On the other hand, we beat the egg whites until stiff, adding the white sugar; we incorporate it into the sweet potato cream with enveloping movements with the help of a spatula.

  7. Pour the result over the shortcrust pastry base and bake for 10 minutes at 200ºC and then lower the temperature to 175ºC and continue cooking at 175ºC for 30 more minutes or until firm. If we see that in the course of the shortcrust pastry edges begin to brown too much, we cover the cake with aluminum foil.

  8. Serve cold with a little whipped cream.
