Ingredients

  • 1 kg of watermelon
  • 750 g of sugar
  • 1 vanilla bean

Preparation

  1. With a good seedless, red, sweet and tasty watermelon we are going to make a summer jam. With it you can give an original touch to yogurt desserts, ice creams and cake recipes. It is very good on toast or with cookies to complete your breakfast with fruit. If you are more daring, add it to cheese or grilled chicken.

  2. First, we have to prepare the watermelon by removing the peel and the seeds it has. Then we cut it into cubes. We put it in a bowl with the sugar and let it macerate for 12 hours, stirring often to release the juice. After the time passed, we transferred it to a casserole with the vanilla meat and cooked over low heat for 45 minutes.

  3. Check the thickness and let it cool.

    I loved the recipe, I want to make it as quickly as possible, but I was left with some small doubts, they are the following:

    1st) Is the watermelon jam after the list half translucent?

    2nd) Does the vanilla bean not change the flavor of this jam, since the flavor of the watermelon is delicate?

    3rd) Is there no need to add pectin? Well, I don't know if the watermelon brings enough pecticna

      1. Yes, it is rather translucent
      2. With the vanilla pod the flavor changes a bit, but you can do without it if you prefer.
      3. You do not need to add pectin, you will achieve the desired texture when cooking the fruit.
