Basbusa, a dessert from Egypt

Today I bring you a curious Egyptian recipe, it is called basbusa and it is a cake made mainly with semolina. Very common in Egyptian, this cake is many years old in Egyptian cuisine. I have not tried it yet, but it sure is delicious, I encourage you to do it and tell us how.

Ingredients

  • half a kilo of semolina
  • two large tablespoons of flour
  • three glasses of yogurt
  • a small spoonful of yeast
  • three quarters of a glass of oil or butter
  • two large tablespoons of grated coconut
  • vanilla
  • a glass of sugar
  • syrup

Preparation

  1. First we are going to sift the semolina with the flour and yeast, and add the sugar and vanilla.

  2. We put this mixture in a deep container and add the oil, the yogurt and if we want the grated coconut and stir vigorously until everything is well mixed.

  3. Place the dough in a mold and put it in the oven at 240º until the surface is golden, always making sure that the cake does not burn.

  4. Let cool and pour over the syrup that we can do with a glass of sugar, half a glass of water and the juice of a lemon.
