Pizza Margarita (Margherita), the authentic recipe

She is from Neapolitan and 112 years old. Pizza Margherita was devised by Raffaele Esposito in honor of Queen Margaret's visit to the city of Naples. Among three pizzas that the cook created for the royal event, the queen chose the one that had the three colors of the Italian flag. Let it get out of our heads that the margarita pizza has oregano. It is made with fresh basil. The rest of the ingredients are natural tomato, mozzarella (no other cheese) and oil.

The authentic Margherita Pizza is delicious and it is also very easy to make. Perfect for dinner on the weekend while watching a movie.

Ingredients

  • 1 thin pizza base
  • 175 ml. crushed and sifted tomato
  • 150 gr. of fresh mozzarella
  • fresh basil leaves
  • extra virgin olive oil
  • shawl

Preparation

  1. We begin by seasoning the crushed tomato with a little salt and a drizzle of oil

  2. The mozzarella, drain it well and cut it into thin slices, which we will put on absorbent paper and press them to eliminate more water

  3. If we skip this step, when the mozzarella is cooking in the oven it will release liquid and soak the pizza.

  4. We want a crispy, not overcooked pizza.

  5. Spread the tomato sauce on the pizza dough spread on a baking tray covered with non-stick paper, spreading it well over the entire base, except the edges.

  6. We put the mozzarella on top, water with a drizzle of oil and bake in a medium position for about 15 minutes at 250 degrees.

  7. Just before serving the pizza, we put the fresh basil leaves.
