Ingredients

  • 225 g soft butter
  • 100 g icing sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon 4 spices (cinnamon, cloves, ginger, nutmeg)
  • 340 wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking yeast
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 handful of almonds (whole or cut in half, depending on the thickness of the nails we want)
  • Assorted colored pastry pencils

Preparation

  1. Put all the ingredients, except the almonds, in a bowl and knead them (you can use a food processor).

  2. Wrap the dough in transparent paper and let it rest in the fridge for at least 30 minutes. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour and put it back in the fridge or even freezer.

  3. Preheat the oven to 200 ° C (top and bottom). Cover a tray with parchment paper or a silicone sheet. Take heaping teaspoons of the dough and shape it into a finger (thinner than yours, as they will grow during the cooking process). Place an almond using a little pressure on the end of each cookie as a fingernail.

  4. Press down in the center of the dough to create the knuckles. For the knuckle folds, simply slash the dough a couple of times with a knife.

  5. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden (keep an eye out, they burn easily). If the nails fall off, paste again with jam (a red one, like berries, will come in handy because of the sinister touch).

  6. Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool.

  7. Paint the nails in colors with the pastry pencils. Be careful, they are very fragile
